If you build it they will come, and they did. Mt. Bachelor provided a massive jump for pro and amateur snowboarders from all over the world to hit. A straight air off this jump is enough to send shivers up your spine, but guys like Jonas Carlson were stomping every huck/spin trick perfectly into the evening.
Bend, Winterfest is a 3 day annual event in Central Oregon celebrating all that winter has to offer in the area. The RailJam was the main attraction of Winterfest with Skiers competing on Friday night and Snowboarder's on Saturday night. Local's and pro-riders came from all over to participate and show off their best trickery. All in all it is an awesome event!
White River offers this 50ft drop otherwise known as Celestial Falls. Josh Mckeown, Christina Russell and Christie G. all dropped this Superbowl Sunday. Watching and shooting this was a lot better than watching the game.
BIKECAR (the movie) is an awesome film I just saw at a Mt. Biking fundraiser for the COTA trail systems around Deschutes county. This has to be one of the funniest videos I've seen in a long time. Bikecar is film about pro snowboarder's who build a self propelling car all powered by foot and ride around from ski resort to ski resort to snowboard. They bike over 500 miles on freeways, side-roads, and mountain roads, winding through Idaho and Oregon with there last stop being here in Bend. It's a must watch!
Right before we made this jump a ski patroller rolled up on his snowmobile and encouraged us to make a jump over some rocks that was out of the ski resorts bounds. He casually said, "if you guys get hurt just come and get me." We just laughed as he sped away on his sled. It's pretty rare that you would hear a ski patroller instigate jump making over some deadly terrain. But that's only one of the reason's why Hoodoo is a different.
We ultimately decided to avoid the rock cliff and to make a jump out of a cornice.
One thing is for certain there are way to many "Tumalo" titles in Central Oregon. Most of the time I have no clue what Tumalo people are talking about, there's Tumalo: the town, the falls, the mountain, the reservoir, etc. Here is a couple from Tumalo Mountain. I have to say it was not the safest hike up. With the warming temperatures and past freezing rain storms huge ice chunks were falling from the trees, breaking branches and everything in its path. It was definitely worth it for the view alone.
Here's a couple night shots from the Badlands Recreational Area. Night shots seem to be a little more complicated during the winter months, first of all freezing to death is a factor. This particular night it was in the teen's but with the wind-factor it felt like the negatives. Jumping jacks and snacks are essential to keeping warm.
Also, batteries seem to freeze up and have a quarter of their life that they would normally have. I've lost many long-exposure shots because my battery gave out.
Well, I suppose it's cold everywhere right now, I bought a ticket to Vegas to rock climb in Red Rocks thinking it was going to be nice and warm. But turns out we hit the thirty year storm of Vegas, I think this storm took everyone by surprise. Although it was a little snowy we did manage to get in bouldering and some hiking.
I love Fuji's black and white instant film, It has a certain feel to it, a little sepia. I think it beats Polariod peel apart film hands down. Here is a couple shots of my friend Justine and her father Sid. We were just messing around doing some family shots and I decided to whip out the polaroid for some fun.
My 5D drowned and died the other day in my backpack from a freak Camelback explosion. Luckily the 5D is insured and I have back up cameras like the Canon EOS 1D Mark II and a recently purchased Medium Format Pentax 645N with a Polaroid backing. So not all is lost but hopefully my insurance company does not stiff me.
So last night I woke up to shrieking in the middle of the night and a knock on my door. When I opened the door this is what I presented with, a bat.
Supposedly this bat climbed through a crack in my roommates room and slapped him in his face a couple times when he was sleeping. He finally captured it in a plastic bag and released it, but the bat probably went directly back to that nice crack in his room. The whole situation was pretty hilarious because he was freaked out.
This was a fun shoot with Flow Yoga for their new Sukha Yoga Retreat website. Personally, I do not know a thing about yoga, but I learned a quite a bit on this little shoot. I may have to give it a try one of these days.
This was a fun photo shoot with Sarah, it was a retirement party on the Sternwheeler boat for a Maritime employee. The best part was being able to get into the captains log to hang out and learn the boats controls.
I made a couple of my relatives pose for the camera at the annual family reunion. They had no idea why I would want pictures of them. I just told them, "because your awesome!"
