Finally got to it!
I posted a picture of Lucy's room on here a while ago, and got some interest in how I made the tulle "fairy pompoms" that are hanging in it. A month or two later, and I've finally got a tutorial together! These are totally fun, easy, and inexpensive to make! They look dreamy in a little girl's room or nursery, or decorating a party or wedding as well! They look especially good in groups and are so ethereal, delicate and pretty.
This is Lucy's room, these are hanging in the corner over her dress up area!
Okay, bear with me. Hopefully these instructions make sense, ask any questions in the comments and I'll do my best to help. :)
You will need: wire that you can bend easily, wire cutters, scissors, a spool of 6 inch tulle ribbon (check the wedding section at your local craft store, or go here), string to hang it with and some sparkly beads (optional).
Cut your wire: For this size of pompom, my wire was probably about 20 inches long.
Cross the 2 ends so there's a loop in the middle.
Twist so it stays.
Bring the other 2 ends around so you have sort of a hollow globe shape.
Twist around your original circle, then twist together so everything stays put. Leave two little wire ends.
Twist your wire ends together to make a loop for hanging.
Now you basically have a wire globe with a loop on top.
Next, cut lots of tulle strips! Mine are about a foot long.
I usually use about 1/2 to 3/4 of a 75 foot roll for one pompom.
Now you're going to start tying the tulle strings onto your globe. Fold a piece of tulle in half and poke it under one of the wires. Take both of your loose tulle ends and slip them through the tulle loop on the other side of the wire (where my finger is).
Pull tight. Apparently this is called a girth hitch - who knew? You can also tie the tulle strips on the wires with just a regular knot or a double knot as well.
Here's what your wire globe + tulle piece should look like.
Keep doing this, one wire section at a time.

And so on.
Pretty soon they'll all be covered and you're almost done! Notice the hollow spot in the middle, I like to stuff a couple more pieces of tulle inside the globe so it looks fuller.

Cut a piece of string to hang it with - however long you like. I like to string some sparkly beads on the hanging string for a little more detail. There's lots you could do with this.
Find your loop inside the pompom and tie one end of the string to it.
And you're done! You'll probably want to fluff your pompom a bit before hanging, they get a little lopsided when you're making them.
Tada! There's so many things you could do with these. Make a garland of them, use fishing line instead of string, decorate the top with a couple flowers, attach streamers to the bottom, etc! Have fun!
